I've never tried to produce garlic on my balcony - and our potatoe experiment wasn't that... fruitful
Do you think, I could do this in a large pot and what would I need for it?
I'm still trying to think up a plan to get my whole apartment complex to agree to a common garden, but not sure if that will work out...
So any tips for garlic? :-)
Not OP but for garlic you need a large pot, soil, fertilizer, and garlic.
It'll also want to be outside as garlic needs that little bit of cold in the night to produce bulbs.
If you keep it indoors though it'll produce "grass" that you can use like garlic-flavored chives.
I planted 4-5 garlics in a small pot late fall, I'm about to harvest them. I would say it's an easy one. Thanks for the tips tho.
I haven't tried it but it looks like you got lots of good responses. I need to start garlic in the fall in my climate so I don't think I would have success with bulbs in pots unless I insulated them well.
I'm currently growing 16 heads of garlic on my balcony, 2 per pot in square pots that are about 1 cubic foot each. I don't have a ton of sun, so the heads don't come out huge, but committing to growing one thing in bulk like this means I won't end up with a tiny amount of 8 different vegetables like last year. I've always heard it's best to start garlic in fall, so mine are about a foot tall right now.
ETA: Oh, make sure to get some cloves of a nice hardneck variety to start your plants. The cloves are much bigger and nicer to work with than the softneck kind you buy at the grocery store.

But our own garlic seems like a really interesting thing to do - as tomatoes and pepperoni are starting to get a bit boring
