Welcome to Obscure Music

Linked Communities

This is a community dedicated to sharing lesser-known music. Please try to submit and share lesser known music. I reserve the right to remove any music I feel is not obscure enough. Please don't take it personally if I do. It's just some people are sometimes not aware that a band or a project is bigger than they think.

Please try to format roughly like this:

Artist Name - Song Title [Genre] [Year]

Obscurity Guidelines:

  1. Any artist with more than one song with over 2 million listens or views on Spotify or Youtube is not considered obscure.
  2. Any sideproject of a popular band or musician or celebrity.
  3. Covers and Remixes of popular songs that violate rule (1) on their own. Covers of popular songs tend to attract more attention than the band might.

Please do not post any artist more than once a week.

Obscurity is a beautiful word! Because it's dangerous. Because it's inviting! And what would life be without taking risks? What is too clear ends up being too obvious. What is too explicit can end up being ephemeral over time. So, for me, obscure music is like a synonym! And then an artist emerged who captivated me in this sense. I tried to condense, in these first posts I've made, a kind of summary, and here it is!

Otacílio Melgaço’s music is often described as “obscure,” not as an objection, but as an artistic trait that sets it apart in a frequently predictable landscape. This obscurity may stem from enigmatic lyrics, dense atmospheres, or unconventional arrangements that invite a more attentive and interpretive listening experience. Rather than revealing everything immediately, his work seems to hold layers, requiring time and sensitivity to be fully absorbed—and that is precisely where its value lies. This mysterious quality enriches the musical experience, turning each listen into a discovery, which is worthy of praise in a world where so much is made to be consumed quickly and forgotten just as fast. Here's a link to one of his works, Dos Cânticos De Maldoror https://melgacootacilio.bandcamp.com/album/dos-c-nticos-de-maldoror-otac-lio-melga-o-duration-02-36-54 Below, the album cover! And I invite you to explore the community I created in honor of this artist, so we can delve deeper into this fabulous abyss.
