For me this is really interesting that there is now an English patch for official Sony's PSBBN! Sadly, I need to find a decent HDD/Network adapter to try it out, so I don't know much about it first hand. I am curious, anybody here tried it?

Well, I have the adapter, so I guess I have to. Someone making these decisions at Sony must have been really into Linux.

I wanted a Net Yaroze model specifically because it ran Linux and was basically just a PS2 converted into a PC. I had the hard drive for the fat PS2, but I don't think it ever had the same kind of hacks to support full on Linux. And now I only have the slim one. Still works; but no hard drive.

Depending on the Slim model you have there is still potential to mod it according to console mods wiki. But this looks like quite an involved process to attempt. Even with this modded HDD I don't know if it would be possible to try PSNBB.

I thought Net Yaroze was just a PS1 thing

It's been so long, I might be conflating two different things. 🤔

I think you're right, but it was black and not the normal gray. There was definitely a Linux PS2, too, tho.

Here you can see all the features it had to offer: https://youtu.be/afetcJgUafg?t=835 For me it is very interesting that is looks like the step in between PS2 and PS3 era.

Yeah, I looked this up after the last post. Very cool stuff.

I guess the "OS", the dashboard UI, and all the channels and so on are separate apps that could be replaced or worked on separately, meaning there's some serious potential!
