For those who don't know, I made a bunch of "bat facts" graphics for my bat community (see examples here) - should I do the same for this community? As you all know, I love me some opossums, so I'll happily do the research and everything.

I'm always a "yes" when it comes to more animal education!

Should? No! It's your free time and you don't owe us anything.

Would we appreciate your work? Hell yes!

Take it further and think about making some small children's books with such facts.

I have about five who live nearby and they visit my yard nightly. I have both a bird feeder that they rummage beneath but I also throw all my food scraps out there. They spend a few hours here in total but take turns with skunks, raccoons and house cats. Last night was the first time my camera caught both a raccoon and cat at the same time in a tense standoff for chicken scraps.

I love possums.

Occasionally, I will go out to the garage at night for a smoke (not that kind, THAT kind), and as I sit there quietly, enjoying the quiet evening, often a possum will come out of the bushes, cross my driveway, and into the bushes on the other side. He never notices me, he's focused on finding dinner, but I'm always pleased to be reminded that we share our world with lots of beautiful creatures. I know every one of them that lives around my house - the hawk, the two squirrels, the two sand hill cranes that have slept in my front yard for years, the owl I hear hooting often, and occasionally see at night, the pair of cardinals, the occasional bobcat that wanders through the yard, and random deer, etc.

We don't have a raccoon in our yard, but I see them in the neighborhood often. There are also armadillos, but not in our yard. There are also giant hogs, and those whose yards back up to woods, have had to surrender their backyards to them. If you re-sod, they just dig it up again. Glad we don't have any of those. They did get into our backyard once, and tore it up good. Luckily it's not a regular thing.

You probably have a few critters living in your yard, and if you don't know them all, you aren't paying enough attention.

Anyway, Possum news and facts are always welcome.
