Sure but you're aware that the vast majority of the food you eat requires diesel to produce and to transport to you right?
Peterbuilt makes large and mid sized EV transport trucks, as has for years.

That's a straw man... not what I'm saying at all.
The real story around petrol prices is not how much it costs mum and dad to fill up the Hyundai and whether they do so on a Tuesday or a Thursday.
The problem is inflation. Everything that we consume will cost more.
Yesterday the treasurer said that their estimates are 5% inflation for this year. That's pretty catastrophic really. There are very few meaningful measures to combat this.
The government is going to cut spending, which means cutting services, and less money flowing through the economy generally.
The other is of course increasing interest rates which again means there's less money around. Even if you don't have a mortgage there will be less customers buying your artisanal oaten milk lattes.
The existence of EVs is not going to assist us in managing this problem.
True we need diesel and I do for my Ute. My EV is great and I don’t have to worry about petrol stations which is my point. While it sounds smug, it is really just a comment saying that the more EVs the less fossil fuel is needed. Greater national security and all that.
It is smug. Everyone knows you don't need fuel for your EV. Well done.
But reducing our dependence on fossil fuel imports is definitely in the national interest.

Having worked petrol retail through my late teens/early 20's, I can assure you that people have no idea how much of our society depends on diesel.
Electricity, too: Ten days without power would be almost enough to send us to the Iron Age. It's scary when you think about it, you could seriously cripple any modern nation by attacking just those two vectors of infrastructure and they're both pretty soft targets in terms of the damage you could do.

Hong Kong has nice cheap electricity... Pretty much everyone drives electric, charge at night on low cost rate.
So time for us to end the fuel subsidy for mining companies and to hit all oversized yank tanks with additional taxes.
