Can I ask for best wishes/luck for Miss Seagoon

she has a 2nd interview for a make up artist job tomorrow , it's a part time rep job for a make up company, not a store

( and I'm hoping may lead to other jobs )

it's a very tough industry but she's lucky in that she has real qualifications , seems that even tho we have a big movie industry there is no way to get make up quals here, so her overseas diploma and experience is πŸ‘

also, she's only been here back in oz for 10 weeks and she's already auditioning for parts in stage musicals

can I say she's awesome πŸ’–πŸ₯Ή

she loves it, she has no illusions and really understands how it works

and she is not in it for fame or "success", she really just loves it

today I am wearing my little antique Irish brooch, only one day a year

it's carved from fossil oak/bog oak

That's cool!!

Miss Meow's blood test results have come back with nothing too alarming, just a slightly raised kidney enzyme to be monitored. She also has been vomiting less, so I'm hoping the new food fixes that issue. She's not completely changed over and is still having a bit of her canned food, so fingers crossed that's all it takes to resolve the issue.

Boss got our inhouse artist to do an image, decided he didn't like it enough so put it through an AI, decided it was top shit and then got it printed on about 73,100 pieces of cardboard. It looks like absolute slop (I hate that term but it's very applicable here). Artist just rolled her eyes and went back to other projects.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

why even hire an artist

Found my little indoor security camera.. software was a bit rude at first (so I thought that was my fault).

but I'm leaving for a few days so putting it outside to keep an eye and decided it, being an indoor one, needs to blend in a little and have a hat and shawl.

I need to name it:

edit just realised the unfortunate positioning of the power cable

I've finished putting grids onto my whiteboards with the marking tape. It's hard to get everything straight, but I managed a decent enough job and now I won't need to draw out grid lines constantly. The little board I got for the exercise plans is good, its double sided with an integrated stand, so I can write up the plan for the next week and have it ready to go in advance. I also got some very fine whiteboard markers which are great, I can fit a lot more onto each board that way.

How was the beach? Tonight's sunset was stunning! Their air was so clear.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

It was beautiful this evening. Calm, mild, and as you say clear air. Which made for some interesting views.

I could see the sun shine on the top of the Dandenongs.

I think if I was allowed only one pedal and setting, it would be the one J Mascis uses for his solos. It just ticks my box every time.

I don't know but I found this....

famous for his massive wall-of-sound, largely driven by the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi pedal, specifically vintage "Ram's Head" models. He often uses it for both rhythm and lead, valuing its clarity, while stacking it with various fuzz and overdrive pedals for complex, high-gain tones.

I stood infront of his of amp stack at Golden Plains 2010. Was so sweet.

Does anyone else have those moments where your cognitive capacity goes to zero and brain dies? Often happens before I eat

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Yes, frequently after a manager says Flag for the 80th time in half an hour, or while doing training that amounts to Don't sexually assault co-workers. Duh.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

I always have just enough brain left so I can see how dumb I've become

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

Had an interview at Dentist Supplies this morning for some more side work. The two guys in the office looked identical, well kept skinny guys. Makes me wonder if this is one of those Brethren businesses since they like to run their own businesses but like safe, boring industries

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So I have a thing called auditory pareidolia, basically when there's white noise / runnng water / fan etc. the brain is tricked into hearing patterns and filling in the blanks. In my case it's music. Really soft muffled music usually things with distorted guitar / vocals (not the words though, just pitch) and drums. Can sometimes pick out the choon but it's all very indistict and sounds like it's coming from 2 rooms over. Choons I can recognise are all from childhood (so no rave choons heh).

Place next door haven't done their downpipes yet so it sounds like a bit of a waterfall with rain like that and last night it went into overdrive. Usually happens when you're relaxed and not doing much.

Apparently it's quite common.

When I was younger thought I was trippin.

Anyway last night swore I heard beegees stayin' alive which was new.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I suffered from auditory hallucinations for years. Still do from time to time, but less and less as I get older. It sounds like a tv or radio or just voices, like if a tv was on outside. The split system used to trigger it and occasionally the fridge.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

I had no idea that had a name. My noisy box air conditioner in the bedroom used to make that happen. Slightly indistinct original music to make a change from the normal internal soundtrack (which is currently running a Hinder marathon).

Smoke alarm just went off and woke me up. Shit those things are loud. Ears are still ringing. Looked around, nothing. It did this a few months ago too, middle of the night. After I pressed the cancel button it did a couple of chirps. It’s not that old and the battery should be fine. Looked up the brand and there’s a bunch of 1 star reviews all complaining this alarm goes off randomly, often overnight. Have taken it off the ceiling. It’s going in the bin and I’ll be off to Bunnings this week for a new one. Not happy.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

I heard smoke alarms only randomly go off at night because the cold makes everything contract and lowers the output of the battery if it's already low. The alarm then thinks the battery is dying and goes off.

Same reason posters and suction cup soap holders in the shower only ever fall off at night time

I had an early package today, with my new little whiteboard and associated supplies. So today's plan involves playing around with whiteboard marker tape to set up my exercise and meal planning boards.

Up most of the night with upset tummy - I think it was the dodgy sammo from colesworth I had for yesterday's lunch. Today will require fortitude.

On the brighter side, I counted no less than 3 different sets of people visiting the bins out for collection to harvest cans/bottles, and leave other stuff in their place. I was impressed with how quiet they were. And the new 4 bedroom house they've been building next door that was recently put up for sale already has a brushtail possum living in the roof.
