Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed
- on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons), archive:is,ph,today (their JS DDoS websites)

- on Hungary: Euronews
Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com
(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)
Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
It's from 2022.
Did they do or are they going to do the same for Venezuela, Cuba and Iran for the US?
It's also more than condemning the war. E.g.
- Souhaite que la France continue de prendre une part active dans le renforcement de l’autonomie stratégique de l’Europe et de la défense européenne.
It is forsighted for 2022, but it ultimately also means giving up French souvereignity for a European army.

Why remind people of it now when Cuba, Iran and Venezuela show that it was posturing and that we support Ukraine for strategic reasons if not economic gains or obligations to the US and not for moral reasons or to defend international law?
In other words, those who get rubles from ruzzia.
I've a lot of gripes with LFI (notably on this point) but calling them hardcore leftist is just wrong.
Actual far left parties are NPA or LO in France.
Saying LFI is far left is like saying the german SDP or Joe Biden (US) are far left. They are left-center/left at best, their program is no more radical than Mitterant.
All the while calling RN an euphemismised "far-right" when they are quiet simply Nazis.
The most powerful woman at LFI is Sophia Chikirou.
She paid tribute to the leader of Hamas :

She also said : "I honestly don't believe China is a dictatorship"

https://www.mediapart.fr/journal/politique/040925/l-insoumission-s-arrete-aux-frontieres-de-la-chine
That's pretty much the far-left dude.
Actual far left parties are NPA or LO in France.
Several LFI MPs come directly from the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA)...
A few days ago, the leader of the NPA said : "We will likely run no candidates in the next elections. We will simply endorse LFI"
It if looks like a duck, if it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, then what is it? A duck.
I am not sure you understand how ridiculous you sound.
You think someone is on the left because (checks notes...) says something about Hamas and/or China?
Are you ok?
Have people really completely lost their minds?
It's like listening to those idiotic Americans calling everything "extreme left" while not having enough grey matter to at least lookup what extreme left used to do. Not that long ago.
Apparently asking not to be killed these days is extreme left.
Humans are so fucking stupid, it is incredible.
You think someone is on the left because (checks notes…) says something about Hamas and/or China?
The left doesn't praise Hamas, China, Venezuela
The left doesn't have MPs paying tributes to Leon Trotsky
Last I checked, MLs aren't leftists. Favoring state capitalism and totalitarianism comes closer to fascism than to anything left.
China is right wing. I'm sick of everyone pretending the fake socialist Red Fascists are left wing, they never were, they just do their best to infiltrate left wing spaces such as when tbey plotted to replace MLK Jr with their own chosen figureheads in the civil rights movement.
Russia, Iran, China, Hamas: basically just MAGA in different flavors.
These are bootlicker positions, not leftist positions. I understand that there's a lot of overlap, though.
It's an AI bot, looking at the post history 9,9/10 chances it's a bot.
Oui, toute personne qui a le malheur de ne pas être en accord avec toi est un bot.
They are left-center/left at best,
Left of center 🤔 ?
Here is Jean-Luc Melenchon, the official leader of LFI :
"Look at what Chavez achieved in Venezuela. Our goal is to transform an angry people into a revolutionary people. This is what we want in France. What I'm pushing for, comrades"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsCwuhXSVG4
Here is the official X account of LFI :
"Capitalism is not a system that can be regulated. Our goal is radical change"
https://x.com/FranceInsoumise/status/1958528941859422422
It's okay to be far-left. It's not a crime dude.
The official classification for LFI is left not far left. ( See franceinfo for exemple https://www.franceinfo.fr/elections/resultats/ where "extreme gauche" is not including LFI ) Their program is not far left and that's what matter when observing a party that's know to stick to it's program before everything else.
The conseil d'etat statued as much in 2024 ( https://environnementsantepolitique.fr/2024/06/21/pour-le-conseil-detat-la-france-insoumise-nest-pas-un-parti-dextreme-gauche/ ) and that was only put into question by the Interior minister this year ( something he have no right doing but our current government wipe their asses with the constitution daily ).
Putting LFI on the same ground as RN is dangerous, one is a party made by facist and nazi that as put a new coat of paint but didn't change and the other is a left party at best that is lead by idiots that have weird sympaties for authoritharian regimes.
