On a basis of Umberto Eco's Ur-Fascism, fascism never really went away. It merely changed its aesthetic forms and went back into lurking.

Great historical video though. Want to make sure it's clear this is not a criticism of this video, merely my own input that I think we have to confront that fascism wasn't defeated by the allies in 1945. Merely one form of fascism. In the years that would follow, the Soviet Union would implement its own form of police state while in the US the FBI and J Edgar Hoover controlled nearly all forms of political discourse, creating an environment that would erode much of the power the Unions had gained prior to WWs I and II. These forms of covert fascism would eventually give way to the forms of overt fascism we currently experience today with the breaking point coming in the period of 1999 (when Vladimir Putin first became Prime Minister) and 2002 (passage of the United States' Homeland Security act).

A lot of people need to watch that. Sadly I think the questioning title just lets people say "yes it is" / "no it isn't" and skip past.

That's what I almost did.

Because of your comment I clicked on the link. The most upvoted comment under the video is "by the time it checks all the boxes it will be too late". If that is a critique of the video, then I expect the video to do more harm than good if shared, because it gets people not to resist until it's too late.

@z3rOR0ne@lemmy.ml's comment links a video that suggests the channel has a history of neoliberal propaganda, which is further circumstantial evidence that this video is harmful.

So I'm skeptical of your assertion that everyone needs to watch that, or that I need to watch it specifically.

Did you actually watch it, or just read the comments?

The reason I said a lot of people need to watch it is because it details the rise of fascism. The mistakes that are made and the signpost on the way. That's what people need to understand.

Fascism never left.
