And very sub-optimal for AI training and cryptomining at scale, but still okay for mid-level gaming probably.

There are integrated laptop GPUs they give it a run for its money coming out this year

I can definitely see the appeal since there are barely any "budget" GPUs left. It just has to be priced right. The 3060 12GB is still a very capable card these days, I can play pretty much any modern AAA game on medium to high settings with it. If they go with the 8GB version it'll be dead on arrival though.

The decision is probably as much about it being the most generation they have on a non-TSMC process. TSMC is totally maxed out. There's no capacity left after Apple, Nvidia and AMD. If Nvidia want to start making anything extra it has to be something made elsewhere.
