I can follow the first 2 steps and then my brains hands are full. Its searching for somewhere to store the information while theyre still talking. By the time I start properly listening again they're on step 7. If I ask them to repeat themselves they'll get annoyed that I wasnt listening. If I do it wrong they'll get annoyed that I wasnt listening.

Luckily I've got pretty good at winging it, and I dont take roles where I can do proper damage by fucking up.

"here's a video guide"

no, fuck that, give me written documentation that I can search through and that can be easily updated

And I can track where I am, make notes, etc.

Written instructions with a video guide to let me see what the words mean is perfection!

"Can you text that to me?"

"Why?"

"Because if you don't, I will forget half and misremember the rest. If you value your time and mine, you will text me or write this down for me."

and I don't even have adhd, just a really shitty memory sometimes

Eh...it's really your responsibility to make sure you don't forget what you need to do. If you can't remember, write it down when they tell you.

I was in a workshop 0n Zoom where they talked about asking people pertinent questions after they said what they did or whatever. To help, she suggested imagining what the person was saying was in closed captions that you were reading.

Seemed like a good idea until she had us each say our name and give a interesting fact about ourselves, at which point I tuned everyone else out while narrowing down my swimming pool’s worth of interesting facts about me.

At the end she mentioned it again and I remembered that’s why we were doing that exercise, not just so I could tell people I once worked tech support with Madonna.

My strategy is to fool NTs into thinking I have my shit together and am taking things Very Seriously by going β€˜hold on, let me write that down.’

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

β€œAll you’ve written on this are a bunch of question marks! In the shape of… a cock?”

[–] SolacefromSilence@fedia.io 1 points 9 hours ago

Honestly, us NTs are happy someone is finally taking us seriously! When it blows up again, we'll just explain it again like always.
