I'm sure they will get right on enforcing that after they scold Russia for blowing up the dam in Ukraine. The sternly worded letter will probably arrive any day now.

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Did Russia ever take credit for that? It always seemed to be something that benefitted Ukraine by denying water to occupied lands to the south and narrowing the river to make it more crossable.

russia controlled it, most experts agree russia did it, and no, destroying it would slow down the actual counteroffensive

edit: russia will never take credit for it unless they can spin it as some gigantic win and avoid consequences for doing so

From what I remember, they didn't. They tried to accuse Ukraine, but the evidence pointed to them.

"We think you blew up your own X" has been a common war crimes defense for years.

Apparently, Hamas blew up all the Gaza hospitals. Russia blew up the Nordstream II. Iran attacked their own girl's school. Americans shot down their own F-15s. Ukraine has attacked it's own dam.

You'd never even know war was going on. Everyone is just punching themselves.

IIRC, The dam is/was in occupied territory. It was hit by a missile.

If I remember correctly, it changed hands a few times before it was destroyed

I wasn't following that closely, that could be true.

Elementary schools full of kids, and now this. So much for maintaining the illusion that the U.S. wouldn't do what Israel has been doing.

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago

I don't think the people with that kind of illusion will see this or care.

Well Pete did say no stupid rules of engagement.... no need for the US to follow silly international laws and conventions.

It will take decades, after agent orange dies and maga collapses, for the US to recover from this

As one of countless millions of Americans that oppose Trump and his idiocy, it really fucking sucks to realize we're in danger right now.

As a Californian, we are literally awaiting a vote to discuss succession in 2028. We want the fuck out.

What's next? Surround Iran and starve them into submission?

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Iran will now target Israel desalination plants.

Why shouldn't they. ?

And it's going to be a much bigger loss for Israel.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Most desalination plants are nuclear, right? Still a thing we need more of, not less of.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 day ago

If your power comes from a nuclear reactor, would that make a school nuclear? Come on bruh

Are you joking or serious?
