I’m thinking national/provincial parks, beaches, or really anything else you can think of. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Churchill for example but it seems pretty inaccessible

Interesting, that looks kinda neat. What is this place exactly? It gives you a sense of what an old-timey town would look like?

[–] westingham@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, it gives you a look at what life was like for Mennonite settlers in late 1800s / early 1900s. Very cool place, lots to see and do. Great food too. Best time to visit is in the summer IMO.

That’s very cool! Sounds like a great place to take kids

If you're not used to the prairies, I've heard of some people getting agoraphobia from driving just outside Winnipeg because it's just so very flat.

Good places to visit are the Whiteshell or Grand Beach. An area that's still quite a drive but would be neat is Little Limestone Lake

Depending on when you'd be visiting there should be festivals just about every weekend in the summer. Things like the Sunflower festival, Corn & Apple festival or the Pumpkin festival are a fun time.

If you want something off the beaten path, Zip Lining in the Pembina Valley is a pretty good time.

These are all very cool suggestions, thank you! And zip lining sounds like a ton of fun. I’ve always wanted to try.

possibly a good place to start looking for things might be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manitoba#Culture ?

( some other section may interest you more )

We take for-granted Wikipedia too-much: it's local, too! ( even for Canuckians! : )

Just piggybacking on this thread: Is there any place to try out skydiving in or near Winnipeg?

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It sounds like you're most interested in outdoor stuff?

[–] a_gee_dizzle@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am! But I’m interested to hear in anything interesting :)

(I knoa this is a different account but I am OP. Peifed.ca is having some serious issues right now and my comments were’t federating, so I replied earlier but don’t know if it showed up)

It did not - I tried not to get too offended!

Here are a few places that come to mind, of varying levels of prominence.

Riding Mountain National Park

Spruce Woods Provincial Park and the Spirit Sands, our only not-quite desert

Gimli (I just think it's a nice town)

Camp Hughes National Historic Site) (no one seems to know this exists, and it's pretty cool)

The Narcisse Snake Dens (I've never been, personally)

I've also got a link to Travel Manitoba in the sidebar!

That’s cool, I didn’t know we had a not-quite desert haha

The Narcisse Snake Dens (I've never been, personally)

Oh yeah! Very creepy. I’ve been meaning to go to that. It looks very cool. I’ll have to get the time of year right though

Camp Hughes National Historic Site) (no one seems to know this exists, and it's pretty cool)

That’s neat. Another commenter in this thread mentioned a replica of an old mennonite settlement town. Between that and this there seems to be a decent amount of historical sites to see in Manitoba (compared to other provinces anyway) which I wasn’t expecting.

Thanks for the suggestions!
