Donald Trump on Thursday said Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin will replace Kristi Noem as Department of Homeland Security secretary.

Trump made the announcement on social media Thursday afternoon saying he was "pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), effective March 31, 2026."

The sources said the president was upset with a particular moment during the hearing when Republican Sen. John Kennedy questioned Noem about a taxpayer-funded $220 million ad campaign. Noem repeatedly suggested the president was aware of the campaign and signed off on it.

Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS)

What in the banjo-plucking sibling-fucking hee-hawing fuck is that appointment?! May as just appoint Cletus the slack-jawed yokel to the role and be done with it.

Awww she just lost her flying boudoir. :'(

[–] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 27 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Wow. I just looked up Markwayne. An unqualified moron. He'll fit right in. I'm sure his experience as a college dropout and plumbing business is the perfect life skills to bring to the DHS. Well... It is a shit show.

Don't forget his storied MMA career!

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The irony of a Native American running DHS is not lost on me.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

That motherfucker far removed from being a Native American. I have non existing grandkids who will have more native American blood then he does.

[–] mephiska@fedia.io 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It said he has his associates degree! That's hardly a dropout....And he's an "entrepreneur who has started multiple businesses." Perfect guy to lead the DHS.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Associates degree was still after dropping out according to the wiki.

Not fired, she's getting promoted to Team America Western Hemisphere Police.

[–] vivalapivo@lemmy.today 16 points 9 hours ago

Team America Western Hemisphere Police.

I don't know if this irony or not anymore

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Yes fired, she was removed from her position and assigned to another. It's sugar-coated but it's still fired.

[–] sbbq@lemmy.zip 14 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

That's not what fired means. If you still have a job, you haven't been fired. Demoted, reassigned, sure. Fired would mean she doesn't have a job with the company anymore.

[–] brianinohio@piefed.social 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Not in Trump's world. He "re-assigns" rather than fire because firing implies he made a mistake in hiring. He learned this in his first term when his constant firing drew attention.

Edit: I deleted a lot of this that made it obvious I did not read all of the comment I was responding to. But,

My guess is that there are/will be two levels of removal:

  1. Moving to another job because you’re a Good Soldier and will Keep Your Mouth Shut about the countless things they aren’t telling us, or

  2. The window method popularized by our President’s real constituent

To be clear, inbred poster boy, Markwayne Mullin, will almost certainly be worse than Noem. Mullin tried to physically fight someone during an official proceeding until Bernie Sanders yelled at him to sit down and behave like a member of Congress.

Mullin tried ripping the "Black People Are Not Apes" sign out of Al Green's hand during the State of the Union.

There are pictures of Mullin cowering in fear during Jan 6, after helping incite it. There are pictures of Mullin standing on a box behind a podium to match the height of his debate opponent.

He is an inbred and a coward with a chip on his shoulder. Expect more Constitutional violations.

Found this elsewhere by another user, but wanted to share.

Got asked about a shady-ass contract, says Trump knew all about it, gets an immediate denial by Trump and gets replaced within a couple days. If there’s a more obvious way to telegraph that the contract was indeed shady as shit, I can’t think of it. Senate better not let this go.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 3 points 6 hours ago

These idiots who race with each other to prove they are the best ass lickers don't realize how expandible they are in such an opportunistic and fascist regime.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Don’t they need to go through a confirmation process, too?

Ppl that execute their own dogs shouldn’t be in charge of anyone that can execute humans.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Ppl that execute their own dogs

That's why she's being put in charge of PETA.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Now do Bondi

[–] JaymesRS@piefed.world 5 points 10 hours ago

We get 2 first names for the price of one!

[–] brianinohio@piefed.social 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

About time. Not like Mullin is gonna be any better though.

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

A bottle of Viagra mislabeled as Vicodin would do a better job, probably.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 9 hours ago

Fired because of stuff she's been doing, or stuff she hasn't been doing?

Noem repeatedly suggested the president was aware of the campaign and signed off on it.

Oh, that makes sense. Fired for a petty reason by the hurt snowflake in charge.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Mullin is such a piece of shit, I don't think it's an upgrade.
