This is really good yo. Getting cat expressions right on a semi realistic cat is hard and you did a focus blur. The shading is fantastic as well. The floor makes good leading lines to the kitty's face from the finger. Composition wise it rocks. The thin angry eyebrows on the kitty maybe arent necessary, I think the emotion can come across still but it'll feel less human and more cat. But overall as a frequent kitty intereracter, this does capture a moment well

I normally draw cartoons so the eyebrows are just an extension of that side of my work (and why I'm much less confident doing semi-realistic stuff), though I can't take credit for the composition, that was all the original photo that inspired it. (the composition was exactly why I wanted to draw it in the first place though!)

My general style is pretty cartoony as well and then kitty in original does have darker fur bits making an eyebrow. And despite your maybe best efforts to copy a photo, that composition is yours. You reproduced it with slightly sharper angles and have deeper outlines which draw the eye from top to bottom of the frame which is tells the story of the photo better than the photo. You also did a way stronger focus blur

I think I came across more "attention seeking" than I wanted, I'm never quite happy with digital art I make, it just always isn't quite right, but people don't notice the mistakes, they just enjoy the picture.

Huge art tip in general: its not that people dont notice mistakes, they don't recognize them as mistakes. I like the little differences between it and the original cause your's legit has the face my cat makes if she gets me while playing where its a combo of sorry/stop being a wimp/i hope this doesnt kill play time. It has a different vibe to the original but I would call that a good thing. You've got a lil style going on. It does look a bit more 'attention seeking' but I like that about it. There are no bad drawings of cats as well

I've been an artist for over a decade and a professional for over half of that time, but I'm still always struggling with the "omigod, how could anyone like this, look at all the mistakes and issues with it." stuff every single time I post anything. 😆

You have to think about it more radically. For art to be "imperfect" there has to be a a "perfect" version of it out there. I'm just focusing on ourselves here, not anyone else.

Everything is ultimately a comparison to life, an imperfect reflection can be either viewed as a flaw or a stylization. What is considered "in style" is as much conditioned in us, as it is chosen. Ask yourself what is your goal in art? If creating it gives you greater joy than the end result it might be fine to be disappointed. Unfortunately a lot of us are stuck with trying to fulfill profit motives it's what's been killing art, long before AI.

It's the reason why people scream in terror when all I really tell them is that we've got far more control over who we want to be and if we don't exercise that, then someone else will decide for us.

Yeah, it's easy for me to forget because art is my job, so I rarely do art for fun anymore, and when I do I almost never share it, so while I'm good at finding the "good enough to show the client" I'm still struggling with the "good enough that I'm happy with it." which is why sharing stuff is helpful, because if I want art that makes other people happy, then it has achieve what I wanted and is good art I can be proud of, even if it is imperfect.

Visual art wise im just a guy that draws sometimes. I've done music and cooking g forever and similar principles csn apply to any non science, you always have to say 'fuck it, good enough' cause it will NEVER be free of flaws and most of the time its flaws only you will see. Theyre worth addressing in order to improve, but people in general arent gonna see the flaws or see them as flaws. I like a lil proof someone drew something, I can feel a personality unique from the original photo here. Thats cool and good.
