I always dig straight down. Just don't have anything valuable on you. But straight down is where the diamonds are.

99% of people start digging back up just before reaching ~~lava~~ diamonds.

This is why Dwarf Fortress is GOAT. Your dwarves start off with mental problems, and they only compound throughout their lives^[the realism is pretty on point...] leading to one of them going postal or creating an insane piece of art

Or creating insane art by going postal

The danger is finding a cave these days

Just dig two blocks wide. It's easy to stand so that you can look down and mine blocks under you - three down. Then look slightly up to the other block you're standing on and mine those three plus three more. Then back down and six, then ahead and six....... it's easy to go down^[tee hee hee] quickly, and then it's safe. You're always standing on a safe block.

Digging up is what really scares me.

unless you are digging at y=-60, the only danger above you is sand/gravel, which can be countered by placing a torch at your feet as you dig up (torches will break any sand/gravel that falls on it)

Grab your pickaxe and a waterbucket. It's time for exposure therapy.

I recently reached Volcano Manor in Elden Ring. I thought touching lava would mean instant death, like so much else in the game, but apparently not.

Bloodhound's Step is your friend :)

[–] Smeagol666@crazypeople.online 1 points 1 month ago

I just killed that bastard Night's Guardian on the bridge. I thought it was so random to get Bloodhound's Step from that asshole. I had tried like 3 different types of damage to kill him "fair", but the motherfucker seemed to be immune to all (holy, bleed, cold). So I climbed up that crooked tree and sniped him with the Pulley Bow.
