The suspect also allegedly tried to set the 54-year-old Black woman on fire during the heated exchange.

Trying to set her someone on fire certainly counts as a heated exchange.

And yes, the author elected to make extra-sure you understood the woman was black, in case you didn't deduce that from her attacker's use of the N-word.
