So I was in the mood for some Star Wars space pews pews (which with the abysmal state of Star Wars gaming today basically means going retro), and started a replay of Rogue Leader. For a game that's older than some of you kids out there, it still holds up really well and I have once again reaffirmed that it's among my top 5 favorite games of all time. But that's not actually what this post is about.

While I was looking up some stuff for Rogue Leader I learned that Factor 5 had finished a Wii compilation of Rogue Squadron 2 & 3, titled Rogue Leaders, but the company got shuttered before the game was released and it ended up disappearing into legal limbo. Pretty much the only thing anyone really knows about it is what was shown in the linked trailer. Highlights include:

  • pointer based aiming using the Wii remote
  • the return of the co-op and vs multiplayer modes from Rebel Strike
  • a new speeder bike racing mode using the Wii remote for steering a la Mario Kart Wii
  • a lightsaber dueling mode using Wii Motion Plus controls (!!!)

Honestly, I'm not sure what the last one has to do with Rogue Squadron, but it would have been amazing and I'm sad we never got it.
