Wait, do the lids not have a hole for the straw? Are you actually supposed to break the plastic with your straw? Even if there's an extra weak spot specifically for that, that sounds inconvenient. Anyway, SMASH THAT STRAW THROUGH THE LID!!

Sadly, even though I've got access to it, I've never tried boba. I should fix that this summer.

Sadly, I don't think we have a place to get boba where I live...

Enjoy your boba, and please report back on the type of lid they use :3

Boba is sealed to prevent spills and to let you shake it up before drinking. The straws are pointed at the end, similar to the tip of a hypodermic needle. The shape of the straw helps it continuously pull tapioca bubbles without suctioning to the bottom of the cup, and can also stab through the seal.

Now, I have no idea which reason is the cause of the straw's design, if not both. It seems boba tea predates the design of the boba cup, so I like to think the straw was designed for the bubbles, and one day someone created a stabbable lid.

Interesting! I've never had boba tea and didn't know that you could shake it. The thought of stabbing through the lid still feels a bit weird, but maybe that's because I'm not used to it. And I can see how the straw's design makes sucking up the bubbles easier. Thank you :3

It's not a lid like a normal soda cup, but without a hole. It's a piece of plastic film slightly thicker than cling wrap that's sealed to the cup with adhesive. Go getcha some boba! It's super delicious. I recommend Taro flavor.
