inuyasha, not yashime, the og one. also full metal the OG series, not BH, also blue gender a little known one finished its run naturally. naraku had is much more complex characther than led on comparatively to the heros.

i would say evangelion both new and the og one, and parasyte, but only if they had more on the backstory origins of the alien race responsible for thier existence on earth, also they made the "angels" too dumb in the series.

Plenty. Old ones like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell SAC. Akagi and Kaiji. Mobile Suit Gundam Universal Century - especially Zeta. Kyoani stuff like Sound! Euphonium and the movie Liz and the Blue Bird. I though Sakura Quest had real good characters. Fist of the North Star is hilariously consistent with its characters personalities. My Hero Academia Vigilantes is a lot better than the main series in my opinion. Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho. Fullmetal Alchemist. Bocchi the Rock. Black Lagoon. Fate/Zero. Chainsaw Man particularly the manga is really good. The artwork and pacing of the manga is really different than the first season of the anime and really helps with characterization that I think gets lost in the anime. Chihayafuru. Hikaru no Go. Hajime no Ippo. Initial D. Sports/competition anime are all about character writing.

Cowboy Bebop: Great characters and writing despite the filler episodes and my gripe with the ending Trigun: surprisingly well done despite its goofyness Monster: I was totally surprised by this one when I first watched it, didn't realize anime with this tone and writing existed. I don't think anything like it has come out since. Took me some time to get used to some of the character animation though Darker than Black: I watched this one when I was a tween and I remember it being pretty good compared to other anime Ergo Proxy: this one is also a bit iffy memory wise but I remember the quality being good Ouron High School Club: this one is a highschool romance about a girl pretending to be a boy and I wouldn't typically consider something like this to have good writing and characters but I rewatched it recently and compared to other anime that try to mimic this kind of story Id say this one does it best

And some more that I can't remember right now

Escaflowne, FLCL, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, Gurren Lagan, Kill La Kill, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Haruhi, One Punch Man, Oh My Goddess, Tenchi Muyo, Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, Dandadan, Dead Leaves, Megalo Box, His And Her Circumstances, Otaku No Video, Run With The Wind, Hajime No Ippo, Hikaru No Go, Monster, Mushishi, Record of Lotus War, Demon Slayer, and lots more.

There is a ton of quality anime with either great storytelling, great character depth, and usually both.
