Not to blame, but Geoff single-handedly killed this game by placing the teaser trailer under the spotlight. A very unfortunate incident. Of course, the game does seem too bland in this age.

I heard this take, and I can't shake it honestly. If it had been a small strange hero shooter with complex mechanics from some guys behind apex and TF2. I could absolutely see a devoted following that grew maybe akin to deadlock.

But this triple A, next big game highlight from Dorito Pope himself, about a trailer of a hero shooter 'with a cool interesting style', really was such the wrong vibe for it to start with.

They just dropped an update today with a new map, new raid tool, and new cosmetics for a few characters.

This whole thing with this game seems to be a case of people trying to force the game to die for some reason. I don't think it's the best game ever and still needs some work, but it's better than Concord.

I added it to my steam account to try it out, actually

Requires you to install a root anticheat

Nah nevermind. I would have tried it but they lost me with that.

Same, the game was dead to me even before I actually watched the trailer or got a chance to try it out. Kernel level anti cheat and/or TPM 2.0 are deal breakers no matter what.

Why Tpm tho? Isnt it for security during boot up? Whats it got to do with games?

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 4 points 19 hours ago

Some games need TPM2 and secure boot to ensure you don’t load cheats at boot time. It’s very invasive and doesn’t even protect games for more than a few days (Battlefield 6 cheats bypassed it during the beta phase)

It also came out that Tencent was investing in this game, which doesn't surprise me. Also makes the game's reveal at TGA make way more sense.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tencent invests in everything. This in a nothingburger.

[–] upandatom@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

Horrible kid take.

Anyone "in everything" is never a nothingburger.

Oh man the steamdb chart for this game is brutal.

I was massively underwhelmed by this trailer at the Game Awards, but that's not particularly surprising to me because I'm personally not a fan of hero shooters, or frankly even PvP in general these days.

But it still hurts to see something like this. As a very creative person, it would crush my soul to work hard on something that got memed so hard to death. And of course, it affects their livelihoods as well.

The whole thing was rigged to fail. There appears to have been almost zero outside input during the development. All the feedback they got were from internal sources or carefully vetted content creators - ones that rarely say anything bad about a game.

They created an echo fart-sniffing chamber.

They released a few updates almost right away which were received positively but it doesn't appear that the company had the money to ride out a few months of poor microtransactions.

No open beta, no Early Access. They disappeared from social media right after the trailer dropped then, when they returned, all they did was whine.

Thousands of players quit and uninstalled before finishing the required tutorial.

I'm sure a lot of the creatives and devs are capable of creating great things. Management created an environment of groupthink, not of questioning and innovation.

[–] lath@piefed.social 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The devs were going to be laid off either way as that is the standard for today's crappy industry.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Even still, having this on your CV doesn't look great.

[–] Prove_your_argument@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sucks their game sucks. At least there's countless other options!

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even after this anti-hype, I was curious and would have checked out the game. But it was not playable on Linux. They didn't gave me a chance.

Beautiful, it's not even listed on are we anticheat yet either (but there's a github request to put up the denial.)

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

I feel sorry for the 10 players left playing this game.

[–] Postimo@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

As a Titan Fall 2 fan, I had a bit of interest just based on it having ex-respawn folks. It sounds like the devs did have love for what they were doing, and went in with the intention of piecing the best of various shooter genres. Shame that it turned out the way it did.
