My biggest issue with HD2 is the shallowness. We progress a large storyline with the community, but it's going to progress regardless of my involvement. I can still follow along and play other stuff. I haven't unlocked or upgraded everything, and I don't want to. I'm not clearing stuff on highest diff, cause I don't want to (I loathe games that feel impossible, I only play for an hour-ish a day, I want to feel some progress). There isn't really much to get me to play, except that it's fun. But when the missions are similar every time (Blow this up. Blow that up. Upload data. Save Citizens.) the gameplay loop is shallow. And given that I'm not super interested in unlocking every scope and attachment for every weapon, which is arguably the "reward", I just don't have a reason to play often outside of these events. Larger squads, some kind of tandem squad mission, something more individually rewarding other than "I can buy a scope" or "my strategy cooldown is 10 seconds faster" would be huge for players like me.
It is encouraging that they're getting pressed on it a little bit and are discussing other game modes is great to hear. I like playing, I just don't feel compelled to play often. Maybe that's by design and I'm thinking of this through a weird lens where I only want to play one game at a time, and HD2 is perfectly happy being a "play every once in a while" game. I'm rambling. Lol
