My biggest issue with HD2 is the shallowness. We progress a large storyline with the community, but it's going to progress regardless of my involvement. I can still follow along and play other stuff. I haven't unlocked or upgraded everything, and I don't want to. I'm not clearing stuff on highest diff, cause I don't want to (I loathe games that feel impossible, I only play for an hour-ish a day, I want to feel some progress). There isn't really much to get me to play, except that it's fun. But when the missions are similar every time (Blow this up. Blow that up. Upload data. Save Citizens.) the gameplay loop is shallow. And given that I'm not super interested in unlocking every scope and attachment for every weapon, which is arguably the "reward", I just don't have a reason to play often outside of these events. Larger squads, some kind of tandem squad mission, something more individually rewarding other than "I can buy a scope" or "my strategy cooldown is 10 seconds faster" would be huge for players like me.

It is encouraging that they're getting pressed on it a little bit and are discussing other game modes is great to hear. I like playing, I just don't feel compelled to play often. Maybe that's by design and I'm thinking of this through a weird lens where I only want to play one game at a time, and HD2 is perfectly happy being a "play every once in a while" game. I'm rambling. Lol

This is a good way to put it. I've mostly fallen off the game, despite really wanting a co-op shooter. I think the problem is none of the mechanics really work well together, which makes it shallow. It also feels like a game that I'm playing alone with other people rather than a team.

I only play with friends, and it doesn't change. It's probably more fun having other people simultaneously going through what you are, but it still just ends up being the same thing on repeat. Plus with the missions only being 12 min or 40 (we really try to do all the objectives every time) you don't really get a say in how long stuff takes. There isn't an inbetween for quick "as long as a CoD match" mission or "this is pushing an hour" mission. A middle ground would be nice. I think having a better mission break instead of full on return to ship would be super helpful as well. Every time I finish a mission, my mind goes "OK, do we end here or do another" instead of "I really wanna keep playing".
