Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

You're absolutely right, and I agree.

When I started learning the craft of roast comedy, this was drilled into me. You never ever ever punch down. Not under any circumstances. That makes you a bully. But punching up? That makes you a fucking hero. If you're going to roast someone, first you have to acknowledge that they are better than you in some way, and if you can't do that, you don't touch them.

~Of course it's easy for me, I'm nobody~

“Satire is meant to ridicule power. If you are laughing at people who are hurting, it’s not satire, it’s bullying.” - Terry Prachett

What if they're shorter than me?

You gotta crouch

Dave Chappelle is going to be big mad if he sees this.

That's a good personal rule, sir.

That assumes the punch-deserving party is always "upwards" from you.

If you punch down, towards people that are less influential or less capable than you, someone “upward” of you is probably benefitting from the lower people fighting each other instead of themselves.

Like, if you have to be aggressive or violent, don't do it to those below you or less capable than you.

Oh metaphorically speaking, got it.

I just got confused because I'm quite tall so it seemed unfair.

No, not metaphorically. What they are saying is that you have to get in there with knees and elbows when dealing with the ~~lilliputians~~ normal people. There are so many more of them than us they will overwhelm you if you don't take them down hard and quick.

They will one day be a part of our infantry and help us behead the masters that once manipulated us.

You can't pull off a sweet uppercut by punching down.

But then I need to be sitting down to punch somebody in the dick…

Could do a split instead.
