Yes 5 years is definitely enough time for someone to cool off about being a fascist

We definitely don't have any recent examples that would indicate that it's not enough time to keep someone away from office to limit the damage they could cause

That's not really a fair comparison since the Mango Mussolini didn't even START to see any consequences.

Le Pen is actually being charged for her crimes and sentenced to house arrest and a fine, with EXTRA punishment possible to likely.

It's kind of like saying that punishing murder doesn't help because OJ Simpson wasn't successfully rehabilitated by his lack of punishment.

It's not about rejecting the punishment, but how short it is

When they write:

Le Pen was seen as the potential front-runner to succeed President Emmanuel Macron in the 2027 election until last year’s ruling

They actually meant:

She is pushed as a front-runner by a massive propaganda effort orchestrated by christo-fascist billionaires, Vincent Bolloré, Pierre-Emmanuel Sterin and the likes.

And they are helping it by saying this sentence.

Only 5? We gotta do more to prevent fascism.

Giving some pocket money, getting a new anklet and missing just one presidential term? A slap on the wrist...
