He's a co-worker more than her paid therapist. Probably just sick of her shit.

Yeah, she had a lot of shit. But I couldn’t imagine seeing somebody in that state and ignoring everything.
Edit: I also felt that moment when she said mentioned she was afraid she killed the wrong kid was incredibly powerful. Seemed like something the therapist should dive into rather than brushing her off.
He was pretty tuned out. You have to remember it's an intentional part of the character to emphasize how little support she had.
Another thing to consider is that we're seeing the film through the eyes of Rose Byrne's character. Major events of the film definitely happened, and characters acted generally the way they did, but she's not necessarily see the events as they actually are happening.
Conan's character is absolutely ignoring her in a moment of need, but her own anxiety may be making it appear worse than it actually was. That doesn't make it right, just a reminder of how we're viewing the events of the film.
Take for example the role of the husband. Throughout the film we view him as a jerk who is clearly not supporting the main character. He's always dismissive and unhelpful. Then late in the film we learn he is in the Navy and off on a ship. His actions of not being there for Rose Byrne are suddenly much more understandable. Should he have left his wife alone? Probably not. Was he likely doing it for the family and daughter specifically, probably yes. Once he arrived home he immediately got to solving the issue with the hole. He genuinely seemed like a nice guy. But importantly, this story isn't about the husband, it's about Rose Byrne's character. Her anxieties are real to her and valid, however they do consume her, which is where the problem comes from.
Yeah, I can see that. I don’t think I realized some of this might just be her view of things, but that makes sense and does explain it more. I was annoyed at how awful the husband character was over the phone. Movies where the wife is stressed always have a husband that is 100% unsupportive in what feels like an unrealistic way.
I just watched the scheme with the husband again (not sure he’s navy, maybe just a captain of a ship), he said “I can’t believe the hole for so big” and her response was “Are you blaming me”? Kind of revealing how she is interpreting things. Me and my wife were hung up on the fact that he was in town and not immediately going to see her and the kid.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but Conan talked about it a bit on Colbert a couple months ago.
I gotta check it out. I loved seeing him randomly show up.
