I don't think most voters want yet another federal election so soon after the last one. And will punish the party who causes a too soon general election.

There will be by-election to fill the empty seats, but that's it.

This is also one of many that are expected but not official/announced. An election this year is quickly becoming a safe bet, especially since we didn't get post-convention floor crossers. Liberals will be looking to secure their majority while deeply unpopular PP is still at the helm of the Conservatives and while NDP is without a leader.

There's always a risk of being punished for calling self-serving premature election. It doesn't appear likely at the moment but who knows how people would react.

Exactly. An election now could bite Carney in the ass big time, leaving him with fewer MPs than he started with in the first place.

If I were him I'd shut that idea down in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't say no. More dependence on the NDP+BQ ain't bad.

They could torpedo the NDP leadership elec if they call one before it's done though. I imagine Heather would have to campaign. Poobably Avi and Rob too.
