I hope Patreon just leaves. Apple has done nothing to earn a 30% cut of donations to independent creators (or fundraisers to help someone get cancer treatments).

I hope they do too. An App Store presence is not needed for this service. They have a website that works just fine.

Why can't they just make an app that is just a web view? That was Jobs original intent to have webapps. So if you just build a browser that opens to Paterion by default it should pass right? Or if the app they create just creates a shortcut that opens the default browser?

Didn't apple just lose a case to epic for this exact thing? Being able to move payments outside apples ~~walled garden~~ prison wall.

Yes they did, but the EU has been very sluggish in actually enforcing that ruling and preventing Apple from bypassing it. They need to financially nuke the shit out of Apple already or it will keep getting worse.

Monopoly abuse. Too bad Tim’s so far up Donnie’s ass that nothing will ever fall on them from the DOJ

So would that mean Apple is taking 30% of the cut anytime I give ppl money on patreon? That’s fucking absurd

If done through their app. You can get around that by going through the site. I feel as if they just made the app open a website by default it should bypass them right? Like the app is literally a website launcher.

Apple is not that stupid - they will see through such tricks.

Which is also why Apple wants this: they don't get a cut of the money Patron makes.

I think if you subscribe from outside the app apple has nothing to do with it? I didn’t even know there was an app.

I’m perfectly fine receiving creator updates via emailed newsletters, if it means not having an app to avoid paying the Apple tax.

Yeah yeah Billy, I know you got cancer, but Mr. Cook wants a new gold plated swimming pool. You wouldn't deprive poor Timmie from his swimming pool, now would you Billy? Just hand in those life saving medications you got there, and give apple it's fair share, it's the right thing to do.

Good Billy, good dead Billy.

Apple has it's nice things but they are also one of the worst tech companies in many ways. Glad I don't have much money so I don't buy much, also never bought from apple anyways.

But many people do and I don't see them stop unfortunately
