Ukraine and Russia have agreed to hold a second round of US-brokered direct peace talks next weekend after a two-day meeting in Abu Dhabi, despite Ukrainian complaints that negotiations were undermined by a barrage of deadly strikes. The trilateral talks in the UAE would resume on 1 February, a US official said on Saturday, adding: “I think getting everyone together was a big step

Zelenskyy said “a lot was discussed, and it is important that the conversations were constructive”.

Russia was criticised for launching drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv – Ukraine’s two largest cities – during peace talks in Abu Dhabi, reported Peter Beaumont. “Peace efforts? Trilateral meeting in the UAE? Diplomacy? For Ukrainians, this was another night of Russian terror,” the country’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, said after the latest Russian assault on critical infrastructure.

By definition madness means repeating the same actions excepting different results. Thus, we have a lot of mad people if they think that they can achieve peace with fascistic terrorists, which even don't have enough brain power to comprehend who they are in reality.

It's worth a try tho. However, putin can stop the war any time by ordering his troops to get back to russia and stop attacking.

Aye, that's the rub. Why even hold talks, if that's the only desired outcome? There are no terms to discuss.

So trump doesn't throw a tantrum?

There is no madness here (at least by this definition): Ukraine doesn't want to piss off Trump who is problematic even at his best moments, Russians do essentially the same. Nobody expects peace as a result of these meetings.

Nobody excepts peace as a result of these meetings.

In Ukraine: yes.

In Russia and USA: no. They do except "peace" to come by Ukraine to surrender and then have another genocide made by Russia but already inside of itself. While these "peace heroes" will be proud that they have ended the war.

The war cannot end until Russia exists in its current way. So I truly don't understand what these politicians are even trying to achieve by organizing such meetings.

I don't think Trump has any real interest in Ukraine as a country. He likes Putin and he likes business opportunities. There's nothing more to it.
