It is odd that all the comments from the dude were removed while the comments claiming the Russian invasion in Ukraine is justified by Ukrainians being Nazis are upvoted and kept.

In that conversation, it looks like only one bell ring is accepted, and that bell ring is the narrative pushed by the Russian side. The same one Who is, in fact, the aggressor in that war.

If I didn't know that lemmy was a place of inclusiveness and freedom of speech, I would think that this is a place for Russian propaganda

Nope, by the Ukranian government being nazis who took power in a US-backed coup and immediately began shelling Russian speaking Ukranians in the eastern half of the country for eight years. The Donbas republics called on Russia for help, and here we are.

It doesn't matter what you believe in geopolitics, it matters what you do. Simply being a nazi, while disgusting, does not invite an international response. Committing ethnic cleansing sometimes does.

The same one Who is, in fact, the aggressor in that war.

Who is the aggressor in Palestine? Hamas started it all on October 7th, right? That's certainly what western media wants you to believe; the same media telling you the Ukranian war began out of nowhere in Ferbuary 2022.

When all you've experienced your whole life is US propaganda, reality feels like Russian propaganda. If social media was big in 2003, you would be calling us all Iraqi bots for opposing the capitalist empire in that war too.

I believe in researchers and Wikipedia. I believe in community knowledge. And there is an actual consensus of scientifics from all around the world including Russians who says that there hasn't been a genocide in the donbas.

If there was a genocide in the donbas, it would mean that hundreds of independent researchers were in some sort of international plot to make the Russian be the bad guys. And the Ockham razor tells me this is very unlikely. I am a researcher myself, and I know that researchers in my country are free to make the research they like. The Ukrainian are no angels, and I am aware that they poorly handled the Russian-Ukrainian matter in the east. But the science is consensual about the fact that there has been no genocide. The only people pushing that rethoric is the Russian gov.

The us propaganda would like me to think that the Hamas is the only bad guy and that everything started the 7th of October but the researcher community is very well aware that this is not the case and I am listening to them.

I am very much anti US imperialism myself, just as much as I am of any imperialism, including Russian imperialism. Putin, Trump and bibi are very much the same kind of people. Despicable people.

Attack the messenger, that only serves my point. You do not have sensible arguments explaining how the vast majority of researchers have consensus on the fact that Russia has no legitimate, good, reason to invade Ukraine in the view of someone concerned with human rights. By sensible, I mean not one that involves the theory that all researchers of the world are on a pay roll. Because you do not have such robust argument, you resort to ad hominem attacks that serve my point.

If you had some peer reviewed litterature confirming the genocidal thesis on Donbass, you would have provided it to me. But you haven't. It means that either it doesn't exist or that you do not have the necessary method to distinguish propaganda from fact. Or that you are a troll.

I have a method. Maybe it isn't right and maybe it is misleading. But I have an actual method to check the news. It is robust and hasn't failed me in the past. This method is rejecting the Donbass genocide story.

Are you kidding? At the age of AI, and even before that, a few pictures is not evidence. the fact that there are actually some Nazis among Ukrainians doesn't prove anything about any genocide. Plus it is not on me to assess evidence. It is on the researchers. What I do isn't necessarily to check the evidence myself but trust in the community of hundreds of researchers to tell it if they find actual evidence. When there is no evidence, there is no paper. That's the case here, there is no peer reviewed article to read. Because that genocide claim is a story.

It is not up to me to prove that something didn't happen. I don't have to prove to you that dragons don't exist. It is on you, if you claim otherwise, to prove to me that dragons actually exist.

I can also share this explanation of Alex Hinton, a genocide specialist cited over a 1000 times in a journal which I recommend dearly because it is maintained by researchers on all topics and is usually well sourced. But again, there is no proof to provide about that genocide because there is no genocide. I have no proof to give to convince anyone that something doesn't exist. That is basic zetetic.
