A US-based rights group said Friday, January 23, it has confirmed the deaths of more than 5,000 people during protests that swept Iran, and that the vast majority were protesters targeted by security forces.

NGOs tracking the toll from the crackdown on the biggest protests in Iran in years have said their task has been impeded by the now two-week internet shutdown, warning that confirmed figures are likely to be far lower than the actual toll.

The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said it had confirmed that 5,002 people had been killed, including 4,714 protesters, 42 minors, 207 members of the security forces and 39 bystanders. The group added it was still investigating another 9,787 possible fatalities. At least 26,852 people have been arrested, it said.

Holy shit how souless you have to be to kill 5000 of your own countrymen. Usually we think that the people united has the power to change the government if they want but is it really? Do we now have too much quality guns?

Fuck. I just hope it's not all in vain. Let the future these protesters are fighting for be realized!

Israeli military-grade bullets were recovered from the bodies of children killed during the armed riots in Iran, according to forensic examinations cited by a source within Iranian security structures speaking to TASS.

Among the cases was an 8-year-old girl from #Isfahan, fatally shot in the "stomach, chin, and back of the head" while shopping with her family, and 3-year-old Melina Asadi, who was killed in #Kermanshah while returning from a pharmacy with her father.

The findings come after armed groups infiltrated peaceful economic protests in #Iran in early January.

Iranian officials accused "Israel" and the #UnitedStates of orchestrating the violence that turned the protests into deadly attacks on civilians and security personnel.

Neat, a Lebanese news site, quoting a Russian state-owned news article, which is in turn quoting some random, unnamed source in the Iranian regime.

Great reporting. Totally not propaganda.

Leave it to tankies to turn the Iranian regime's atrocities into another reason to blame Israel...

If you think US media like CBS is doing anything other than running a psyops campaign to manufacture consent for regime change you need to update your definition of propaganda.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

What does CBS have to do with it? That's a right-wing rag.

But it's kind of a strawman to bring that up, because the article is from Le Monde and quotes a human rights NGO's figures...

That human right group funded by the CIA? Yeah, no, wonderful source with an astounding track record, especially in Iran.

Can't trust mainstream American news because they're right wing

Can't trust foreign news services because they are all psyops campaigns intended to trick Americans

Who the hell are you allowed to trust? TikTok influencers and indie podcasters?

All you need to know is that israel controls the US government through its lobby network, Christian Zionist lunatics and Jewish oligarchs and it has a hard on for regime change in Iran.

Idk, the TV told me this is antisemitic to think about

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 7 hours ago

Depends, are those tiktok influencers wearing keffiyehs?

Israel sucks, but I'd rather have them pulling the strings than Iran.
