Today is some more Halo. I've been holding off on PvP lately because my Network card has an issue where the signal just shits itself and dies every few minutes. So it really kills PvP's momentum. We decided to just power through though and went for some social games. We obviously lost, but we did have a fun time.

We got Capture the flag on one, and while the enemy team was harassing mine, i got a spawn right next to the flag. So i just... grabbed it and ran off with it. I just kind of spent 3 minutes wandering around with the flag.

I only ran into someone else once and i got a lucky shot with the sniper and killed them after fumbling with it. I picked up the flag again and continued wandering around until i made my way back to base.

We did some private games after that, and we picked a map on Halo 3 that i can't remember what it's called, but it was small and really fucking purple. I really liked slayer on this one with 4 people because it was small enough it felt like you could always find someone to fight. A few maps i always feel like i can't find anyone, which, for a PvP game, isn't great. So this was fun.

I also did some Halo 2 for myself. I wanted a challenge so i drove a Ghost up onto the Scarab for fun. I thought it'd be a fun challenge. Obviously they didn't intend for one to be up there though as i was glitching out like crazy on the Scarab and ended up getting crushed between it and the bridge a few times. I eventually got it though and that was fun.

That's honestly something i like about these games, you can come up with stupid bullshit challenges like this and the game just lets you. If you can get a Ghost up there, for the most part, the game shrugs and just lets you carry on. It's awesome.

It's crazy to think it's been going on for this long. It feels like recently i did my 1 year post and now we're almost to double that

[โ€“] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, it took quite a while to reach the one year milestone, but time seems to have sped up after that.

Are you sure you aren't skipping numbers? Or posting twice a day? ๐Ÿ˜€

[โ€“] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I might have skipped a few lol. I wouldn't be surprised if i lost count

[โ€“] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Heh. I was just kidding. But it would be funny if you did skip some numbers and no one even noticed it ๐Ÿ˜

I played one online match of Halo 3 snipers the other week and it lasted all of 3-4 minutes because the other team just knew exactly where everything was. It was a little ridiculous tbh. Like I got maybe 2 kills the entire match and they just kept one- and two-shotting us the whole time. It just didn't feel fair or fun, and this was in social mathmaking.

Yeah it feels like most people on MCC multiplayer have been playing for longer than Iโ€™ve been alive, snipers especially. Luckily the other modes are a little better, so you can deselect snipers and play something else. Or just play firefight like I do lol

Firefight is what I try to stick to. I've been trying to get the Gravetender mission done but I can't because anytime I make an open Floodfight game, people will stick around for all of maybe 20 minutes and then just leave.

That was how our social matchmaking usually goes. We have a bit more luck turning off any precision modes and sticking to CE/Reach/2, but even then we do still get occasionally stomped by people who play to play competitively. Some of the most fun (and fair) games i have is just playing with friends, but of course, not everyone has friends that play Halo. It sucks.

555 that's amazing! Get a shot and celebrate!

Certainly a memorable milestone. I never thought i'd get this far

After seeing you post about halo recently I downloaded MCC on xbox, and am having a blast going through the custom games. Theres sometimes that one guy who takes it too seriously and goes nuts on mic at the team for not knowing the fastest weapons to destroy the blockades on Fat Kid, but overall everyone seems to be friendly enough and just there for a good time.

I recently picked up MCC on Deck for the nostalgia. It's been at least 15 years since I played the original and I don't think I played any of the sequels.

MCC is weird on Deck - you have to install the games through the Steam DLC menu, not the "install games here like the instructions say" inside of MCC.

I was super pissed I needed a Microsoft account to play, and that the login screen glitched repeatedly, but I eventually got in.

... Single player only for me.
