Mabuhay at maligayang pagdating sa Lemmy! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

A fediverse community for the Philippines and all things Filipino!

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Makes me think how for decades a lot of nice things were destroyed for scrap materials or for entertainment -- like this Pontiac GTO -- and now many are scrambling to find and pay hugely for antiques.

I think "Palakpakan" trike driver is an important test case for more nuanced discussions on digital vigilantism.

It turns out he was in the right โ€” indeed, there are times that street becomes two-way. Of course, he was still wrong in the sense that his license was expired, but that's a completely different argument and is just moving the goalposts. 100% of the reason why people are mad at him is because he allegedly counterflowed and had the audacity to mock who filmed it.

Basically, I absolutely hate Hawthorne Effect. Someone who has a camera would deliberately agitate people, film it, and act like they're level-headed in the clip.

Vigilantism is the consequence of a failed system of law enforcement and justice, where it's mostly the privileged and powerful who get the most out of those. It is also why it has resulted in the Tulfos literally being worshipped as arbiters of justice, and why Dutertes still have a cult around them.

Packaging art in some SME products start to appear suspect.

Not all of them are made by hand. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

How's the air feeling around you all? Mine's gotten to the point where it basically equates that of Baguio City during the night, though I think this amihan influence might or mightn't last the new several weeks.

Really great. I don't even have to turn the fan on most of the time because it's so chilly. Reminds me of the Jan-Feb weather in 2015 when I'd go to lunch in Makati and despite the sun rays it feels like I'm in Benguet.

PPOP is now boring, am going back to my old local alt-rock tapes.
