I'm reading Red Plenty with a book club of mostly libs, and my job is to keep my temper down and also know more than everyone else about central planning.

I don't have time to read a book on it, ideally like a good article or something.

Ty. Yeah I'm kind of aware but would like to be more informed overall going into the discussion, thanks that feels like a perfect little snapshot.

There's a podcast on it called The Santiago Boys

This one is good. Lots of detail and a great reference website so you can find sources he mentions.

Cybersyn, big data, variety engineering and governance by Raul Espejo

Its a paper on Cybersyn written by a guy involved with it.

If you are looking for other texts on economic planning, there has been an uptick in work done on this lately.

https://www.indep.network/ & https://www.democratic-planning.com/ are two places to look

Also "Economic Planning in the Age of Climate Crisis" is a short book and takes the linear programming approach. (One of the authors is a piece of shit, but it's worth downloading from Anna's Archive). There have been criticisms of it too: https://cosmonautmag.com/2023/07/how-not-to-economically-plan-in-the-age-of-climate-crisis/

Doubling the rec for Morozovs podcast The Santiago Boys. His article Digital Socialism is also worth reading.

Also, The Forest and the Factory by Chavez and Neel. It's more of a speculative piece on non-capitalist production and innovation, but an enjoyable read. They are both great writers.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Late to the party, and this isn't about Cybersyn, but if you want something to read about Soviet planning you may find this worth reading

Also for Cybersyn, you can look for Raul Espejo (mentioned in the comments) and Stafford Beer. Both worked on Cybersyn. You can read about the Viable System Model, which is Beer's theory on what makes a system, well, viable
