To be fair, Russia fell under assault from the imperial core the moment a proletarian revolution met with success.
Soviet expansion began from within a context of such assault, with colonialism of the core having already been established as the hegemonic global order.
Why is it that anarchist groups who have formed from conflict and continue to be in conflict such as in Rojava or Chiapas haven't turned to brutal inwards suppression to defend themselves?
I doubt any single factor reliably determines such outcomes.
