I guess it's a new sign of the steep rise of the deep web in response to absurd amounts of AI crawling? Welcome to the future. The dark forest is here.

You will be unable to search anything. Besides wikipedia I like the hypothesis "Good sites need to hide to not get spammed by bad actors" a lot.
Thanks, these articles are exactly what I wasn't able to find. oh, the irony of the medium article hidden behind a login wall :D
Hey, this doesn't fit this comm. It's meant to be for people intentionally making bad uis for shits and giggles, not for complaints about dark patterns actually out there.
This has been this way forever iirc. My only reason for making a bsky is to be able to search for users who are too ignorant to make a mastodon account or don't realize bridgeyfed is a thing.
Would you agree that it is bad UI, or do you just expect social media platforms to be this way nowadays for users who are not logged in (to mitigate spamming of the search functionality I guess)?
Search is pretty expensive in terms of CPU and RAM usage, so it's a common target in DDoS attacks and I'm not too surprised that they lock it down. Github also requires you to log in to use their code search.
Yeah I still remember the time in 2017 where search was not as locked down (on github) as it is today. I kind of miss it.
Yes, I would agree. Don't get me wrong, bsky is kind of not my thing in general lol
