Fediverse vs Disinformation

1925 readers
66 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Remember when he said he'd seen US Muslims on TV rejoicing on rooftops after 9/11
We need to remind everyone as often as we can bout his lies and daydreaming BS

I'd care, if it wasn't alongside the real videos. This is nitpicking. They are happy, they are celebrating.

The videos I've seen so far were all of expats. In other words, people who were most likely enthusiastic opponents of the government in Venezuela. Of course those people are celebrating. There is no celebration within Venezuela on video. The American media would have published them long ago to show Americans that they don't live in the most evil and harmful country in the world after all.

Some of them probably are celebrating. But not for long. This is the short calm before 10 years of endless guerilla war.
