If we just accept that as a liberal style Truism about the world, then no one will bother to stop them, but it doesn't mean that compradors and US bootlickers always win, they actually very rarely succeed, we just don't get told about all the US's failed attempts at overthrowing other countries.
Hopefully this is more than just talk or an alliance on paper. It's mindboggling that they didn't take the empire's threats seriously from the beginning when it was loudly stating its intentions.
