It's not that long, it seems to be doubled up and it's from social media, so this is the only video I could find.

He may have forgotten due to inebriation.

First amendment violation and he could be held personally liable in a just system.

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

Hell, even in a half decent unjust system this would be reasonable

The headline and article do not match. The Navy will not be able to reduce Kelly's rank because he didn't do anything wrong, as much as the regime may not like it. Hegseth can merely request a review, but what Kelly said is true and is in fact what the US military teaches its troops every day.

And...that makes it ok for the DoD to use earned benefits to muzzle people? What if, like a lot of Americans even in his income bracket, he was living paycheck to paycheck? That would sure be an incentive to shut up and get in line.

You're right, and that's exactly the Idea: it's about sending a message.

Well, that's not the point. He's being punished for his speech which is protected both by the First Amendment and the clause of speech and debate. Even if the punishment is not really going to affect him financially that doesn't mean it's not a punishment.

Kinda funny how the people that keep going how the US is the only country to have "free speech" are not up in arms about this. Where is Mr. Free Speech Absolutism now?

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Free speech absolutistm is only for slurs, was that ever unclear?

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Unless that slur is cisgender.

We aren't monsters here, we don't want this said unlike the super harmless n word
