Mali and Burkina Faso banned Americans a few days ago. What with Maduro's kidnapping, it looks like that decision payed off in more ways than they might have anticipated!

No because that is what the orange turd wants in order to achieve complete control of everything

No he doesn't. You still protests, and people having their rights. He wants to declare martial law and with it, congress looses all power, the courts loose all power and he becomes a literal king. Once this happens, all hope will forever be lost

No? There has never been a legal path to fixing the US Empire, it has always required revolution.

Congress has already lost all power, and the courts are all complicit. Trump is already king. Wake up

I love this comment. It's like asking an ant to hold back the tide. The fact it's said so unironically makes it better.

The fact that that user recognises themselves as part of the country that has been nothing but a cancer in the world, and dislikes it, is already a lot and should be praised. They overcame the propaganda and used their minds and hearts to examine the world. πŸ‘

We appreciate it, but it materially doesn't help us outside of the US and it also doesn't help y'all inside either

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Better than nothing and much better than the opposite, but that's fair.

It's literally nothing, and Americans thinking dumping their feeling into the cyber abyss is "doing something" is a huge part of the problem.

US imperialism is a paper tiger. Grow a spine and organise.

No, it's asking an ant to stand up against a bunch of grasshoppers.

Definitely reduces the risk of tomfoolery and coups...

[–] cornishon@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Incidentally due to the Maduro situation no one paid attention, but Burkina Faso foiled a planned coup literally on the night of January 3rd.

USians*

americans are fine, don't let usians give us a bad rep.

[–] RaphaelSchmitz@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I assure you Canadians and Mexicans do not want to be called Americans, especially these days

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

usian it is then! nobody forced them to name themselves "usa"

America is a continent not a country, calling USians americans is legitimizing their conquer of America

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Better yet, call them gringos

As does using an Italian's name for the inhabitants of this continent. America is most certainly not a continent. It is a colonial project.

I understand this rhetoric, but one extremely effective way of changing people’s opinions and broadening their world view is travel. Banning people from the US from traveling will only result in more insulation and β€œothering”.

That said, American tourists are πŸ‘the πŸ‘worst (I say as an American). We should act like what we are: guests. I’ve had the privilege to travel to five nations that don’t speak English as their native language and have learned my P’s and Q’s every time and it’s always paid off. I speak the language terribly, but I’m at least willing to try.

I get where you are coming from, but I think the only way to get through to the goddamned, thick skulled, toddler brained populace of the us, is to take their fucking toys away.

Don't allow them to travel to other countries. Economically sanction them and make burger price go up. For the love of god get the all military and all us bases out of your country.

The us should be shunned and rot in rhe mess they made for themselves while the world builds solidarity and cooperates. Twisted fucks can learn appreciation for the world by experiencing being cut off from it.

Ban Preznit Piggy, for sure. No one with that many felonies, rape and pedophilia charges should be let in any decent country...
