I recall reading a study showing that Republican voters more easily change their opinions to match what their leaders are saying than Democrats do. I'm not sure what words to Google to find the study now that it's been a few years since it was done, though.
The level of groupthink that conservatives have is unparalleled. They constantly need to be reminded that they are the in group.
Look at all the Trump merch available to show their shibboleth. These people need others in their group to know that they are in their group.

Nor really, no. They kinda did a little for a short while and rather than abandon Trump, they temporarily abandoned Faux News in favor of Newsmax, OAN, or getting all their news on Facebook and Twitter.
Some have since returned after Faux stopped pretending to be independent of the Mango Mussolini, but the competitors are still MUCH more influential than before, which is a constant reminder to Faux that they have to keep enthusiastically licking his rancid taint or suffer the consequences.
