This is a re-release as part of the start of it airing as seasonal anime. They definitely improved this episode a lot compared to it's premiere a year ago. Animations are far smoother, in-betweens and backgrounds are a lot more detailed. Theres some additional camera angles for certain scenes and a few additional small animated details that wasn't in the original premiere.

Ok, I'll have to go back and check more thoroughly. I did a quick comparison when it was re-released but other than a few seconds offset I found no difference to my one year old copy.

There is a 56min special (Whispers of Dawn), which came out July 2023.

Episode 1 (The Heroic Spirit Incident, this one) came out just at the start of 2025, so it's 1 year old (my bad).

Episode 2 (Ensemble VS Pretense) should release in a few days.

I'm reasonably exited for this. Do we have a 4th red saber now? I thought he might be mordred at first, given the red.

We have quite a few more Sabers that use red as a primary or secondary color in FGO. That being said, I'd recommend not looking into that because for some dumb reason they released this Saber a year ago for New Year's with his full name revealed and everything (actually coinciding with the preview release of this very episode).

Having read the FsF LN (as far as it is released, one volume missing still), I think Saber is one of the few servants in FsF where giving away their true name too early actually detracts from the experience a little.

Oh, yeah I know. It was an attempt at a joke that this another saberface, but we already have 2 red saberfaces with the names Red Saber and Saber of Red.

I'm an anime only with Fate Stay Night, but I don't think many people go into Fate Stay Night not knowing who Saber is these days tbh.

The dumb bit is them revealing his true name right away while the related anime's pre-release episode, which they're intentionally syncing up with, is putting in some effort to hide it. I'd wager plenty of people have not read FsF, although maybe I'm mistaken there. Additionally, FGO has shown that they already have the capability of not revealing true names until the time is right before, so it's not like this would've needed some crazy new tech.

As for your last paragraph, I was talking about this FsF Saber, not OG Saber.

Oh, right, I read FsF as FSN. My bad. Yeah, I doubt many have read those. But they revealed his name in the 1st ep too though, right? Sure, at the end, but not sure I'd call that hiding.

Did they? All I remember him doing, and all I can find him doing, is:

Swear on Arthur's name
Mention a Loxley who is quick/fast
Use Excalibur
One tiny hint that might actually give him away entirely, that I cannot point out specifically

In the credits he's also listed as "Seiba".

Oh you're right. I guess I read the subs wrong because I took it (and the excalibur usage) to mean that he was Arthur (I haven't played that FGO event, so I know nothing), but I guess he didn't say that at all indeed. So I guess I've been talking BS haha. I guess I don't know who he is after all.
