To determine the age of a tree you would need to examine and perform measurements on the tree so as to learn its age.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Could that include the incriminating of predetermined units within the constraints given from within the tree and it's altercations of the environment?

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago

Determine the age of the tree by performing tree age measurements.

How to know thing

Know thing.

How to know thing from past

Remember thing.

How to know thing from future

Predict thing.

I'll take my payment in a combination of Catalan Peseta, Cypriot Lira, and D-Marks, thanks.

Alternatieve method tot know thing from future: wait.

I can tell you your age by asking only 3 simple questions:

  1. What year were you born?
[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 months ago
  1. Are you sure?
  2. For real, though?

trees are already 4-12 years old when planted, i guess that margin of error wont matter as much for really old trees

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

What is a tree before it turns 4-12 years old?

Which go unplanted for 4-12 years?

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In the same way all children cease to exist at 18 years old

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 6 points 4 months ago

Oh! That's where I went!

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

They grow in soil, sometimes pots and sometimes in tree farms. but when a sapling is delivered for landscaping it is planted at the final location where it will be. They are referring to the point where a 4-12 tree sapling raised for landscaping is planted in the final location.

The terms seedling and sapling are used in almost all contexts similar to how puppy and kitten are used for that stage of their lives.

I bet the LLM was referring to the point at which the tree is planted though

A 4-12 year old sapling.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago

If I understand my preacher right, saplings and seeds are trees even before they've been planted, and anyone who says otherwise works for satan.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

By that logic, a woman or man is as old as their current age minus the age they stopped being a child (or maybe baby). That's generally not how age works.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

correct, the meme logic is wrong, that's why you need to account for the time it was on a pot

[–] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

what do you call it when you put the seed in the pot if not "planting"?

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

seeding or seed starting

[–] Ketchup@reddthat.com 6 points 4 months ago

Thanks Einstein

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 5 points 4 months ago

I've never seen a tree wearing a ring, but they say if you count the rings you can tell how old it is. Sounds like an asshole playa to me.

Needs AI to fix grammar too

[–] Switorik@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's not wrong. This is why prompt engineers was a thing.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"figure it out" is not technically wrong but it's worse than "it depends" so it's definitely very unhelpful. Which is kind of the opposite of what an LLM should be.

[–] Switorik@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I'm only playing devils advocate. I'm not a fan of LLMs myself.

You need to know how to use the tool to get the correct output. In this case, it's giving you a literal answer. Craft your question in a way so that it will give you what you're looking for. Look up "prompt engineer" for a more thorough answer. It's how we thought LLMs were going to be to begin with.

[–] wischi@programming.dev 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Though the phrase "prompt engineer" is so funny. Has literally nothing to do with engineering at all. Like having a PhD in "Google Search" 🤣

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago

I guess it's like social engineering, but for LLMs

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Disagree. The short term solution is for you to change your prompt but it is definitely a short-coming of the AI when the answer is strictly useless.

It's like crime: it should be safe everywhere anytime because of police and laws, but since it's not, you can't go everywhere anytime. That's not on you, but you have to deal with it.

[–] Switorik@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

Different language models input prompts differently.

Other models will input your question, break it down internally, figure out what you're really asking and then spit out an answer. It still might not be right but it will give you a better answer than that.

We're ragging on a wish.com version of a model and it's response.

Considerations: years are counted differently in some cultures. If you’re part of an uncontacted tribe, you might have an alternative calendar or numerical system.

Trees: trees trees trees trees trees prompt: how to trees trees trees trees trees trees
