Doesn't this show the most crashing version instead of the most played version?

Most crashes / issues are related to mods and other issues not inherently related to the base game, but yes it is important to keep in mind. I suspect the newer versions (1.20 and up) are slightly overrepresented over for example 1.7.10 because the mods for it are newer.
