Pinar del Río.- "Here, one planting is removed and another one comes right behind it. We never have empty plots." Dany Mena García pauses his work to confirm what is plainly visible.
For a long time, the organoponic farm known as La Erea, located on one of the banks of the Guamá River, in the city of Pinar del Río, resembles a garden that maintains different shades of green throughout the 12 months of the year.
When seeds are scarce, a relative sends them from abroad, and when the electricity shortage began to jeopardize the irrigation system, an international collaboration project donated a new one that runs on solar panels.
Therefore, in its 49 flowerbeds there are always vegetables and greens in harvest.
"The acceptance is tremendous. People come here looking for everything. Since it's an organoponic farm that's in permanent production, people start arriving early. I don't know how many people have already passed through our point of sale today."
