HI Team,

Gamesbattles.com is closing down Jan 15th, what would be the best method to archive the site for historical record keeping purposes? The company now is owned by Activision and they seem to have very little interest in preserving the site as is. I wonder also about the legality of then uploading the site to another domain (once downloaded) for people to use as a digital archive of the gamebattles records?

Not sure how interested this community is in this particular examples so depending on size I would do it myself.

Cheers

httrack.com is one option to mirror the site for your personal use. Unfortunately there's no way to tell how long it would take and how large it would end up being.

That would most likely be a breach of copyright.

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
