Watching the country burst into celebration was amazing.
I vividly remember watching an old man holding one of those official state portraits of Ceausescu, smiling, and spitting in Ceausescu's face, over and over and over.
I had friends in elementary school who were born in Romania and adopted by an American family. I was too young at the time to understand the implication. In hindsight I have so many questions I wish I could have asked them. I've since lost contact with them, but I hope they're doing well and I hope they stayed in touch with their cultural heritage.
