This must be an academic study; everyone knows the Marines can't read.
I want to come in and huff and puff and refute this, but legit my dad didn't learn to read until after he left the corp.
I remember when I was considering joining the military, and my own grandfather, who was a fairly proud Marine veteran, told me any branch was fine except the Marine Corps.
Curious, I asked him why exclude his own branch.
And he said "Because they don't teach you anything for civilian life."
I imagine he was thinking of more technical jobs in, say, the Army, since it's doubtful that an 11B was going to be taught more civilian skills than he was (I was a smart lad, and he probably figured I would get something far from infantry in any case). But that always stuck with me with a sense of sadness.
