I don't really know how to start this but here I go. My husband had a catheter removed in a hospital I didn't know existed let alone been to. My daughter graduated high school and was also diagnosed as inattentive ADHD all within a week. Phew.

She was in NZ at the time her dad fell sick and I didn't have the heart to tell her over the phone so when she came home I had to tell her in the garage. She took it really well.

Because I was focused on his recovery I wasn't able to unpack her diagnosis properly but credit to her she completely understood. Even helped me out with some stuff around the house.

She's now on different meds that so far are working. She's still my forward thinking, intelligent, compassionate, well mannered, funny, cyclonic, messy baby girl and always will be.

It's been a crazy month.

Ps. Don't worry. I'm showered with love and support from them both. I truly am a lucky lady.

Woof, definitely a lot going on for you of late!! Glad to hear you're getting lots of love and support while doling it out to them! Hopefully some peace and calm for you three soon!

We have big plans for boxing day when she'll be spending it with her friend away from the house. Lol.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thatโ€™s an awful lot to happen in a short space of time. Hope you, husband and daughter are doing as well as can be. Stress can sometimes hit you after the fact, so look after yourself this Xmas and new year!

Right now life couldn't be better. It's certainly gonna be a merry Christmas for me.

There's this lady I talk to when I feed the strays. She walks her dog and we have a bit of a chinwag.

She hadnt seen me for a while because I don't get home till 6pm to feed the cats due to work commute.

She came over just now to see if I was OK.

Oh I love that, the little connections you can make. So lovely of her to check on you!

Itโ€™s nice to be reminded there are still good people in the world.

What are some of the best things you've experienced this year?

my answer

  1. Meeting so many new people in all the different settings I've been in!

  2. Started listening to jazz music.

  3. Watching way more movies.

  4. Starting my uni course and going on placements.

  5. Continuing playing music.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 12 points 1 week ago

Mine's simple.

Remaining sane (ish) lol.

Hopefully it lasts.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago

Watching my daughter become a more confident independent young lady, getting more out there and experiencing life like young people should thanks to her getting her licence.

As a consequence husband and I having a lot more alone time.

We were a happy family before but now it's more different kinda happy.

There has been so much happen this year it's hard to believe it hasn't been longer. I'm never any good at picking out a 'best' thing though, too many variables!

I've bought a new (to me) van to replace my aging car. I've moved to Ballarat, which was easier than I expected it to be (but still a lot of work!). I've done most of the hard work in establishing new gardens. My mother has moved into aged care and is doing well. I've finished my Diploma.

Probably the best thing to me is just seeing a lot of hard work making changes in my life over the last five or so years start to pay off. I'm still not drinking. My budgeting is working well and I'm seeing my savings continue to grow instead of my debt. My meal planning system is working well and I am mostly eating good healthy food. The decluttering and attention to good tidying/cleaning habits mean my house is generally tidy and welcoming instead of chaos.

Reconnecting with old friends and making new ones

Getting off suboxone and feeling life properly

The cats

Making music from genuine feeling again

Getting through some really difficult moments sober

I have so many jazz recommendations for you

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Some questions firstโ€ฆ

What have you tried that youโ€™ve liked? Is there an instrument or sound you particularly want highlighted?

For example, if youโ€™ve been enjoying jazz vocalists (Dinah Washington, I love you) then thatโ€™s quite different to sitting you down with the Miles Davis back catalog for maximum trumpet all the time. If youโ€™re vibing with the classic Basie big band sound (1930s and early 40s) then I donโ€™t want to send you looking 40 years later.

Whatโ€™s your vibe so far?

[โ€“] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

I think I'm more into jazz piano and guitar at the moment, more cool jazz. I am also partial to big band and vocal stuff. I love a good double bass too. Think Oscar Peterson Trio, the other famous jazz people, Art Blakey etc. Don't mind some Basie.

Have probably listened to vocal jazz the least but am open to recs! Samara Joy is cool.

Ted Cat says, " Mmm, mmm" in a sweet sing song way. Translation , "Where breakfast" Mmm, m, mmm

Me, "Sun's not even up, not breakfast time"

I got stuck in the rain yesterday.

And now I'm pretty sure I have a cold. Another excuse to stay in bed and chill?

Why not lol

Man, good thing I've taken off until the new year. This weekend felt like it flew by

I hear you man. Except I forgot until I'd showered and gotten dressed for work lol

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Oh man. This fatigue is kicking my arse to the point of disrupting my sleep. I fell asleep in the early evening/late afternoon and woke up at midnight. Guess itโ€™s true if you refuse to properly rest your body really will make you.

spoilerI have the opportunity to join a new discord. Iโ€™m tempted but not so sure. It says that this one will be nicer and more inclusive, and perhaps if everyone is joining again at the same time they would be less subtly territorial.

But I donโ€™t know. There are so many reasons itโ€™s not a good idea (discord itself included) and I might have to choose to take care of myself even if it means missing out. Discord is probably not a positive thing for me.

Iโ€™m watching canvas stretching videos with no intention or ability to do it and messing around on single player games. Trying to rest.

Melbcat is being a fussy clingy baby. Sheโ€™s eating but maybe doesnโ€™t feel well, or is jealous of the games? Iโ€™ll see if the vet is open to call tomorrow. I did take note of the Xmas hours but immediately forgot. Next time I take a photo of the sign.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Maybe Melbcat knows you are sad? Or is love bombing you so you give in and let her outside to get that Willi wagtail ๐Ÿคฃ

And yeah I understand about the discord thing. I've had similar experiences with community. Once you've been let down it's hard to get up the energy again. Maybe join and lurk for a bit to decide the vibes? Whatever you decide will be fine.

She probably is, there have been petitions at the door. But yeah also sheโ€™s probably a bit sooky from not feeling great.

Yeah I think I might give it a miss and just deal with the FOMO. Iโ€™ve got a lot going on and donโ€™t really need to stress about anything else.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I've been trying to find somewhere that does bulk meat delivery at decent prices as the places I was going to aren't available to me now I've moved. There are an awful lot of ridiculously expensive options out there, I'm not sure how they have enough customers willing to pay that much. One I just looked at came out to $43 a kilo, and half the box was things like mince, sausages, chicken fillets etc. that are generally a lot cheaper. One that let you choose your own options had little packets of bacon that came out at $83 a kilo. I'm happy to pay that for a couple of top end items, but it is way too high for an average.

Edit: I think I might be able to get some from one of my old suppliers, I think they just need to update the details in the database for the ordering website as I am in a new suburb that isn't listed. Fingers crossed this works out and I can fill up the freezer. They primarily sell to small businesses so have a lot of options that just aren't available retail, including things like different types of bread flour, so I can stock up on a few pantry things too. ๐Ÿคž

Today I

  • repot some plants
  • wrap some presents
  • clean Chookโ€™s cage
[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Get Chook a broom toy for Xmas and tell him to clean his room! (I just couldnโ€™t find a gif of a bird โ€˜sweepingโ€™ and thought this was cute)

spoiler

Christmas shopping. I am so excite.

I found an original 1969 3D Toppan postcard of the Moon Landing, near perfect condition, for my dear friend who is an amateur astronomer. I'll put it in a good frame.

And a beautiful 1960s murano necklace with green glass beads that glow, the colour is so pure and the glass so crystalline, and it has pretty wire work settings. It will look lovely on her.

.

Train excitement!

There was a freight train derailment just past Newport. The train I was on slowed right down as we went past so I had a good squiz.

Two freight cars fell completely, half a dozen other cars were off the tracks. New tracks were already being built where tracks had been destroyed. There were huge cranes lifting up the fallen cars, they had large chains around the bellies of the cars.

It was a long train too, had three large engines and maybe 50 cars.

There were special rail cars to test the tracks, to fix the tracks, to build tracks, crane train cars too.

No one was hurt and it was all very interesting.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

Oh wow. That would have been fascinating

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Negatives for today: I am at work

Positives for today: Yummy breakfast muffin and a chicken salad for lunch. People haven't been burning things down or crashing their cars too much so far today, so I've gotten some life admin out of the way.

I think on balance today is a good day.
