My option: Crab grass. Not a choice, not really at least.

if you have pets and/or kids, then two types of crab grass (Bermuda Grass and Kikuyu Grass) make great options, easily handling the wear and tear of rough-housing – of course, your neighbor with the golf-course lawn will hate you – and Kikuyu will eat lawnmower blades – and both of them are invasive as hell …

I check all the boxes here I have a kid who loves to “look for buried treasure” in the yard, a dog who loves to power slide when catching the ball and a lawn obsessed neighbor.
