There’s something funny about posting that to lemmy and not mentioning lemmy as a Reddit alternative.
Late Stage Capitalism
A place for for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.
A zero-tolerance policy for bigotry of any kind. Failure to respect this will result in a ban.
RULES:
1 Understand the left starts at anti-capitalism.
2 No Trolling
3 No capitalist apologia, anti-socialism, or liberalism, liberalism is in direct conflict with the left. Support for capitalism or for the parties or ideologies that uphold it are not welcome or tolerated.
4 No imperialism, conservatism, reactionism or Zionism, lessor evil rhetoric. Dismissing 3rd party votes or 'wasted votes on 3rd party' is lessor evil rhetoric.
5 No bigotry, no racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any type of prejudice.
6 Be civil in comments and no accusations of being a bot, 'paid by Putin,' Tankie, etc. This includes instance shaming.
I guess so... The social media part wasn't meant to be a main focus, as it often depends on moving not yourself but the people around you. I do intend to revisit it, though.
For password management, KeePass must be mentioned.
KeePass and its many forks are somewhat advanced, as you have to implement synchronization and backup by yourself (using a trusted CSP and a 3rd party mobile app). Therefore I would not recommend it to beginners (to which this guide is addressing to)
But apart from that I do agree with you. KeePass is one of the most versatile and privacy focussed password management solutions available.
Immich and Nextcloud as substitutes for google photos has the same problem, as Element for the chat if we get
Yeah, was also annoyed at that. I don't use it anymore but it's technically the most private option and least profit oriented.
Mentioned on the website. Just not on the guide as it is more targeted to the tech-savvy. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/category/password-manager/
P.s. recently came across https://psono.com/ which looks to also be an excellent self-hosted option.
Hi! Just wanted to pop in here and say that I've been following your guides for a long time now (I was the Degoogle+ Journey OP), and I'm super happy for the website finally releasing! Your call to action has helped me tremendously with making my digital life align more with my values, as well as finding some much better alternatives. Thank you for making a difference in this ugly future we're living.
Thanks @xpey@piefed.social ! It's comments like these that make it all worth it. So hard to know how many people are actually following these guides and benefiting from them. Having done the switch myself through this process, I feel so much better using tools from genuine businesses.
For gaming OS I really have to point CachyOS, their “somewhere in the middle between pure Arch and SteamOS” approach makes it a really good gaming option. I’ve been trying it for over an year with zero regrets.
And Spotify as a music streaming alternative?? Really?! 👀
Will all the crap that they keep on making over and over again?
Spotify is an alternative, but it doesn't come recommended (in the guide or the website) and has a huge disclaimer to their name. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/software/D5JUoM1dZysf7JJgTAWXy/
The reality is that most people know about Spotify, so it's better to educate people as to why they aren't a good option rather than not mention them at all.
Actually it’s on the website. Hence my reaction.
It users don’t actually click the more info to see the details, all they see is that it’s in the list.
Still, fully agree with the educate and warn part.

I get your point. I'll look at adding the disclaimer to the category list as well to help educate without needing to click into the tool.
Oh, and for an easier transition from Windows, on my personal point of view, Mint is great but I would go with KDE Neon instead of Ubuntu.
does anyone know if there's a company that hosts immich for people to pay to use? I like it but don't want the hassle of keeping that data safe
https://pixelunion.eu/ is a fantastic option and they recently donated 20% of their profits to humanitarian aid
wonderful thanks, I was beginning to worry I'd have to start a company to do this myself lol
Pop! OS is my daily driver and I'm very happy with it. That being said, Bazzite would be a better "gaming" distro to put in the guide.
Is this yet another foss alternatives for stuff you've never actually used to know how most foss alternatives sucks bad?
Most of this isn't FOSS, but there is excellent FOSS tools out there. I would say most of these are like-for-like offerings in terms of the current mainstream options.
I mean, if you look at the picture, no? It's not about FOSS it's about changing companies and it's services that arguably most people use. It has no information baked in, so not the most useful, but it's not the standard FOSS stuff, anyways.
Repost.
Already saw that fail. https://lemmy.wtf/post/33731213
And no mends or improvements from the feedback given. (afail)
There usually is a long list of feedback points that I try to incorporate after each post. I have made several changes, but those were limited to the website. I get you on the guide not being updated, and sorry for that. I'll make sure update it before sharing it again so it can also keep improving.
If you're looking to improve the guide I'd suggest not putting the week number in the same column as the list of app targets. Like either push them all the way to the left margin or rightward toward the arrow column

Yeah agreed, might even remove the week title as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, leave Twitter for the next Twitter. Smh
